BIOGRAPHY

Nova Scotia singer-songwriter Jason MacDonald is quickly emerging as one of the East Coast’s finest artists. His debut CD "Leave My Mark” released in the summer of 2002 was an immediate success earning both critical acclaim and impressive sales.

Now with the release of his follow-up CD “The Day” (earning him an ECMA 2006 Award nomination), Jason continues to create an original sound all his own. His songs feature a fresh sound of contemporary folk infused with an adult alternative mix and lasting lyrical impressions. “The Day” builds on the strong foundation set by “Leave My Mark” and showcases the depth of Jason’s songwriting with an edgier production element.

Throughout the eleven original songs on “The Day”, Jason has managed to capture an earthy “live” feel, which translates well from the studio to the stage. “The Day” was recorded at the award winning Lakewind Sound Studios with Jason making his debut as producer along with veteran Fred Lavery.

Jason continues to perform throughout the Maritimes, promoting his music. Some of his performances include the Acoustic Maritime Music Festival, Loyalist City Folk Festival, Privateer Days, Sherbrooke Village Concert Series, Dieppe Summer Concert Series, Johnny Miles Festival, deCoste Centre Songwriters Series, Wagmatcook Festival, Crab Festival and Arm of Gold Festival to name a few. Jason has shared the stage with many well known artists including Michelle Wright, John McDermott, Ennis Sisters, Dave Gunning, JP Cormier, Matt Anderson, Charlie A’Court, Rylee Madison, Jimmy Rankin, Lennie Gallant, Bruce Guthro, Matt Minglewood, Gordie Sampson and Mary Jane Lamond.

“To Get to Know You”, the first single from “The Day”, was released to radio and immediately received significant air play. It was followed by the second single “Angelina” that was also very well received .Both singles continue to receive air play.

In addition to recording his second CD and performing throughout the Maritimes and New England, Jason hosted ‘‘The Acoustic Café ’’a series of live performances on Coastal Radio 89.7 FM (on-line at www.coastalradio.ca). Later this year Jason will be hosting a new weekly radio show “ Meet The Music” on Coastal Radio. Program will feature singer/songerwriters from Atlantic Canada as well as those visiting our region.

Last year, Jason was one of four performers, from across Canada, chosen to showcase in the roots room at CCMA 2006. Jason impressed the large number of delegates that attended the event with his professional performance and well crafted songs.
